Congratulations
Hari Raghuraman and Vithun Muthukumaran brought their A-game on the day it mattered the most – as Centurions Cc defeated Wolfpack Cc P by a huge margin of 207 runs to win the 2022 TDCA Premier Championship.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Centurions Cc justified their decision by putting on a mammoth 272 runs on the board with bulk of the runs coming from their top order with ample support from the middle and lower order batters. The openers were high on restraint and played at their watchful best but never missed out to punish wayward bowling, even as early as the second over, where Nadim cracked three boundaries. With Hari settling down at one end, Nadim looked to accelerate the scoring but ended up being bowled in the 12th over.
Deep and Hari stitched an 88-run partnership to hold things even at halfway through the innings, and it did not look like anyone in the bowling team could separate them. But the game did turn attritional towards the end with Centurions losing wickets against the run of play, nevertheless, they took advantage of all scoring opportunities. Wolfpack Cc had mixed returns with the ball as they conceded 45 extras while Tahseen and Ubedur bagged 4 wickets each.
Chasing 272 to win the Premier championship, Wolfpack Cc tried to hit the ground running but were thwarted by Shihan and Eran’s disciplined bowling and unerring lengths. Having dismissed the openers cheaply, they kept the pressure on the batters and dried up the runs. They finished their opening spells with convincing figures which left Wolfpack Cc at 41/3 after 13 overs.
Centurions could do nothing wrong in the day as their bowling changes completely blew away the batting line up. Bowling for the first time in a premier game, Vithun found support right away and started troubling the batters with his impeccable line and length, delivering a maiden off the first and a wicket maiden off his second over. Tinto and Vithun made short work of the batting lineup and Wolfpack Cc were dismissed for a paltry 65 in 23 overs with Vithun claiming the best figures of this match which read an envious 5/5 in 5 overs.
